Low Carbon Diet Project

NWAICA needs your help to save the planet!
The environment that we live in is changing, the air is filling up with chemicals, our native animals are dying, our water is running out, the weather is strange and we are getting sicker.

This is all caused by having too much carbon in our environment, which comes from wasting energy.

Too much carbon dioxide increases the temperature of the earth, which causes drought, storms & global warming. It’s killing us and our plants and animals.

The amount of energy you use and the negative impact you have on the  environment is called your carbon footprint.

The Low Carbon diet is a Queensland Government initiative to lower household carbon footprints and reduce the impact of climate change on our planet. NWAICA has been given a Government Grant to help introduce the Low Carbon Diet to the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and other culturally diverse groups.

NWAICA believes that, as the custodians of this land, who have kept this    country healthy for thousands of years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be the leaders in making the difference that our earth needs.

  • There are heaps of easy, simple and free ways that you can help reduce your carbon footprint, and save money, (like unplugging your phone charger when you’re not using it)  and NWAICA wants to show you how!
  • NWAICA is looking for individuals, families and community groups to join our low carbon diet team.
  • We will calculate your current carbon footprint, come up with an action plan for how you can reduce it, and let you know how much carbon you have saved from entering our atmosphere.
  • To assist you, you will be given a resource pack including a DVD made by and for the community.
  • At the end of the program we will be giving away prizes for whoever  reduces their  environmental impact the most.
